So to say this season hasn't gone as planned would be an understatement. Our plan was to bide our time and work it out over the next few seasons.
Since then we've upgraded 🙄 our defence, adding Eric Johnson, one of the best young defenceman in the league. That he is signed for the next four years, to an enormously endrrated contract is an added bonus.
We moved Alex Pietrangelo, Josh Bailey, and our 1st round pick to make this acquisition, which at the time, was a reasonable price to pay.
Since then, we've gone on to lose almost all of our games, including a 10 game losing streak, second in the league, only to the Ottawa Senators and their 13 game (and counting) losing streak.
We've moved on from Jason Chimera, one of our top scorers from last season, adding Pascal Dupuis (on the exact same, 5 year $4.5M contract) and Marc Methot, another young RFA dman.
At the trade deadline, Florida only made one move, swapping underachieving forward Daniel Paille for underachieving forward David Clarkson.
Now that the trade deadline is over, and the playoffs are so far out of reach that all we can do is dream about next year, that's what our focus will be on.
We have to re-sign defencemen Trevor Daley & Marc Methot, and forwards Chris Conner and Ryan Shannon while trying to move on from a few other players. We have the cap space to make the moves we need to make and might be able to move a player or two to create some more.
