Vegas Finals Report
Here we go again!! A rematch of the 2011 Stanley Cup finals, between the Vancouver Canucks and the Boston Bruins.
Now that we’ve had a couple of games to see how these 2 teams’ matchup, it’s clear we are in for a long series. And a beauty to boot.
Vancouver managed to take the opener 3-2 in overtime, after trailing 2-0 early in the 3rd period. After potting the Bruins that 2-goal lead, Vancouver went to work on the power-play. Going 2/3 with the man advantage, Vancouver was able to take the momentum from Boston and win the game. Both teams relied heavily on their goaltenders, with Boston just edging Vancouver 38-37 in shots. But the Canucks got the better of the Bean-towners by capitalizing on the PP early in the extra frame.
Boston came back to take Game 2, with a heck of a game from F Matt Stajan. He scored a natural hat trick in the first period to pace the Black and Gold. Even then, the Canucks managed to tie the game less than 3 minutes into the 3rd period, on goals from Ovechkin, Iginla and Popovic. But it wasn’t to be this time around as the Bruins got 2 goals just over a minute apart to take a 5-3 lead. Vancouver got 1 back but were unable to get the equalizer and the teams head back to Boston tied at 1 game apiece.
This series has all the markings of a classic, with Vancouver being the highest scoring team in the league this season and appearing in their first Finals in the WTFHL. They made it with the second highest points total in the Franchise’s history.
Boston is returning to the Cup Final after a down year, regular season wise, with the worst season in the team’s history. But what else could we expect of the Bruins, since they’ve made it to the Conference Finals at least, in every season, except Season 3.
Should be a hell of a season ending Battle.
At least let’s hope so.
